About Botswana
Botswana is a landlocked (or economically "landlinked") country located in the southern part of Africa covering an area of 581,730 square kilometers. It is bordered by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. It is semi-arid with a subtropical climate generally experiencing very little rains with high temperatures during summers (maximum temperatures of around 35 degrees celsius) and dry cold winds during the short winter season.
Botswana attained its Independence on the 30th of September 1966 and is still quite a relatively young nation, and like most African nations, has experienced a history of colonialism, regional tribal movements and mineral exploitation largely by European nations. However, it is this colourful, rich history that has helped to make it into a beautiful, strong, peaceful, charmingly multi-ethnic and progressively unique nation intertwined by the Spirit of Botho, Tirisanyo and Bokopano (translated: humanity, cooperation and unity respectively).
